First-Time Builder Finds “Untapped Gem”
at Lake Las Vegas

Joe Savarino found an “untapped gem” when he and his partners discovered Lake Las Vegas four years ago when searching to find the perfect luxury community. With the help of Signature Custom Homes, the businessmen and real estate investors designed and built three custom homes in the sparkling lakeside resort village.

“This was our first foray into homebuilding,” said Savarino, who served as project manager on the homes he built with partners Dave DeTar, Chris Feaver and Lalit Dhadphale. “We looked all over Southern Nevada and couldn’t find anywhere better than the SouthShore of Lake Las Vegas. We bought the land four years ago knowing that this development would be incredible and are pleased with the homes and the continued development at the Lake.”

While the community requirements for Savarino’s homes were new to him and his partners, his team at Signature Custom Homes “built three high quality homes and certainly taught us a great deal through the experience,” he said.

Risk takers by nature, Savarino and his colleagues have been investors and owners of several businesses for the past ten years. While they have invested in Las Vegas real estate via condominiums and other single family homes, they weren’t intimately familiar with the custom homebuilding process prior to working with Signature.

“There are 200,000 items in a custom home,” he said. “There really wasn’t any true customization in the properties we had owned up until this point. It’s a new business for us, but with experience managing large teams and projects through other business ventures, we found that many of the same principles applied.”

One of those principles Savarino found to be especially important when building custom homes was having a top-notch team of professionals at his side. “Signature Custom Homes has a great team of employees. When building a custom home, I found that people either ‘get it’ or they don’t. Our point person on the project, Kim Bello, our warranty person, Robert Lee, and our accounting contact, Mari Rahl, are all people who really ‘get it’ in this business,” said Savarino. “We found our team at Signature to be very flexible, working with us in areas that other homebuilders wouldn’t. It has been an excellent learning experience for us on how to build a custom home and do it properly.”
